Executive Director

Rank MI Vote (RMV) is a non-partisan, non-profit family of organizations (c3, c4, BQC, PAC), with a mission of strengthening Michigan democracy and improving governing outcomes, by realizing the benefits of Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) in Michigan and its communities. In the seven years since its founding, the organization has matured into a nationally recognized leader in the Ranked Choice Voting movement, with four of four municipal campaign wins.

The organization has built a statewide movement, after having been founded in 2019, winning a council-initiated city charter amendment for RCV use in Ann Arbor in 2021 and starting and winning signature gathering-initiated amendments in East Lansing, Kalamazoo, and Royal Oak in 2023. RMV is a citizen-led, volunteer-powered organization committed to voter empowerment and grassroots engagement to drive our work.

RMV is seeking an experienced, dynamic and dedicated Executive Director (ED) to lead the organization toward its vision of "more choices, more voices" in our democracy. The organization brings progressives, conservatives, moderates, Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, and Independents together for RCV. The organization needs a leader that can work collaboratively with volunteer leaders, navigate effectively in a variety of political circles; elevate the organization's presence statewide;

diversify, engage and grow its donor/volunteer/supporter base; and lead a passionate and dedicated team of volunteers, independent contractors, and partner organizations in a remote work environment.

This is a full-time job offering flexibility in work schedules consistent with the increase and decrease of organizational operations throughout the year.

  • Key fundraiser responsible for the long-term financial stability of the organization.
  • Develop and lead fundraising strategy to grow and diversify contributed revenue for both c3 and c4 activities, including reviewing and revising the current fundraising plan; identifying, soliciting, cultivating, and stewarding donors and donor prospects; and identifying, managing, and writing grants for financial support.
  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of Rank MI Vote, including submitting to the Board a proposed annual budget and providing the Board monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
  • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, monitoring monthly cash flow, and leading the organization in periodic forecast updates when necessary.
  • Candidates with grant writing experience and a record of securing grants in excess of $100,000 will be given preference.
  • In collaboration with RMV's board and volunteers, create a strategic plan that is aligned with the mission and vision of RMV and clearly documents how the organization will achieve its mission of bringing Ranked Choice Voting to Michigan with input from key donors (current and prospective), board members, and volunteers.
  • Develop and lead processes to assess progress toward goals and determine whether strategic shifts are needed, gathering input from across the organization and externally.
  • Develop annual performance expectations with volunteers that include goals, objectives, inputs and outcomes, ensuring the budget process aligns with and supports organizational priorities.
  • Inspire, motivate, and cultivate a cohesive team, ensuring that there is strong internal communication, participation, coordination, and accountability among volunteers and key consultants.
  • In collaboration with the Board President, identify and recruit new Board members to grow Rank MI Vote's Board in a way that reflects the diversity of the political reform movement (e.g., age, race, gender, political ideology, geography).
  • Supervise, guide, and advise volunteers to meet priorities, achieve organizational and strategic goals and fulfill the organization's mission. In collaboration with the volunteer organizers, develop volunteer capacity to ensure the organization can fulfill its mission and vision, and successfully execute its strategy.
