Mission Advancement Advisor
The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Mission Advancement Advisor, with a portfolio focused on Foundation Relationships in the Southwest region of the US.
This position can be home-based within our Southwest region, preferably in North Texas or Houston, TX.

ResponsibilitiesThis individual will focus on establishing relationships with an assigned portfolio of American Heart Association's top donors, securing donations of $100,000 or more from foundations while moving donors to their highest level of dedication and involvement. An integral member of the regional team, the Advisor is also responsible for qualifying potential American Heart Association donors and developing engagement opportunities across many programs and initiatives of the Association to further their connections and advance contributed support to the mission.
- Complete a minimum of 120 face-to-face donor and prospective donor visits each fiscal year to develop and handle a portfolio of approximately 50-75 foundation or family foundation donors across the assigned region with the ability to give $100,000 or more
- Responsible for closing a minimum of $1 million to $1.5 million annually through a variety of giving mechanisms, including but not limited to outright, stock, family foundation grants, Qualified Charitable Distributions, and deferred mechanisms
- Conduct a minimum of 24 solicitations per year, focused on six and seven-figure gifts for restricted and unrestricted purposes
- Collaborate with Field Directors on strategies and opportunities to identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift prospects to support field events and initiatives. Serve as a resource and leader in major gift relationships across field campaigns
- Serve as a content authority on funding opportunities for priority initiatives, using available training, templates, and other resources to develop customized strategies, and prepare presentations and proposals for donor consideration
- Maintain accurate and timely records of all activities in Salesforce CRM database, which will be used to communicate market, regional, and broader results and for performance evaluation purposes
- Participate in training activities and work with other team members to develop programs and strategies to advance the Major Gifts effort
- Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience:
- Donor-centered fundraising with at least one year focused on major gifts or large accounts, preferably supporting large-scale research on health and/or community issues
- Identifying and developing major giving and/or engagement opportunities that align with organizational mission, goals, and strategies at national and local levels
- Independent working knowledge of standard office software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, and video conferencing applications
- Strong proposal writing skills
- Experience working with sophisticated donor scenarios representing $100,000 or more in revenue or philanthropy with validated fundraising results at the six- and seven-figure level
- Validated collaborative skills with all levels of staff, prospects, volunteers, and donors
- Validated verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to make polished, professional presentations
- Must be able to travel up to approx. 25% of the time, including overnight travel as required
- Here are some of the preferred skills we are looking for:
- Five (5) years of experience
- Knowledge of the philanthropic landscape
- Experience using donor relationship management software, such as Salesforce CRM, Blackbaud Enterprise CRM, Raiser's Edge or Microsoft Dynamics
- CFRE preferred
