Company Description Since 2005, Adhikaar for Human Rights and Social Justice has worked to improve the lives of the Nepali-speaking community and amplify its voice within the broader social justice movement. The organization has supported thousands of individuals and families through direct services, advocacy, and community education. Adhikaar has trained hundreds of new leaders, building grassroots power and organizational capacity. The organization has played a key role in advancing major policy and legislative wins, including the New York State Domestic Workers Bill of Rights and the International Domestic Workers’ Convention, demonstrating its impact at local, state, national, and international levels.
Role Description The Organizing Manager is a full-time, hybrid role based in Queens, NY, with some flexibility for work from home. This role leads community organizing efforts with Nepali-speaking workers and community members, including developing campaigns, coordinating outreach, and facilitating leadership development programs. Day-to-day responsibilities include building and maintaining relationships with community members, supporting member-led committees, organizing meetings and events, and conducting regular one-on-one conversations to identify issues and opportunities for action.
The Organizing Manager will collaborate with staff and partners to design and implement advocacy strategies, mobilize members for actions, and ensure campaigns are aligned with Adhikaar’s mission and values. The role also includes tracking organizing activities, documenting outcomes, and contributing to reports, grant proposals, and internal planning.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in community organizing, grassroots campaigning, or movement-building, preferably with immigrant or worker communities.
- Strong relationship-building, facilitation, and communication skills, including the ability to engage diverse community members and support emerging leaders.
- Organizational and project management skills, including planning events, coordinating logistics, and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to social, racial, and economic justice, and alignment with Adhikaar’s mission and values.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, with regular in-person work in Queens, NY and some remote work as needed.
- Experience with data tracking and documentation related to organizing activities, such as maintaining member lists, meeting notes, and campaign records.
- Proficiency with common office and communication tools (e.g., email, word processing, spreadsheets, video conferencing, and social media) to support organizing work.
- Language skills in Nepali or other languages spoken in the Nepali-speaking community are highly beneficial;
English proficiency required. - Prior experience in nonprofit, labor, or advocacy organizations is a plus; relevant education or equivalent work experience in a related field is preferred.
