This senior level position within Advancement is responsible for working with some of the College’s highest potential prospects. Working with the Senior Vice President for University Advancement, this position will secure and steward restricted and unrestricted gifts from assigned individuals and families capable of making $10 million and above gifts in support of Dartmouth College’s institutional priorities.
It will collaborate with senior development officers and college administrators to further develop prospect relationships.
Key Responsibilities- Manage a portfolio of high‑potential individual prospects through identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship cycles.
- Forge relationships with a diverse population that leads to eight‑figure gift solicitations and secured gifts aligned with the College’s priorities.
- Create and implement multi‑step plans that deepen relationships with all core clients.
- Engage the President, Trustees, and high‑level campaign volunteers in prospect strategies.
- Articulate and implement donor communication strategies: draft proposals, correspondence, and other written materials.
- Travel to visit prospects, often with senior officers and volunteers, and coordinate campus visits.
- Establish and maintain relationships with volunteers, alumni, parents, and friends who assist prospect strategies.
- Oversee preparation of funding proposals, briefings for senior officers, Trustees, and volunteers, and stewardship reports.
- Participate in management structures supporting top prospect strategy and tracking.
- Help shape and implement new initiatives such as challenge gifts, presidential commission on financial aid, family leadership circle.
- Develop collegial relationships with colleagues in the Dartmouth College Fund, Gift Planning, Leadership Giving, and professional schools.
- Work closely with the Senior Vice President for University Advancement to engage members of the Campaign Executive Committee and the President’s Leadership Council.
- Demonstrate professionalism and collegiality in all interactions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree with 15+ years of experience in a complex college or university development operation.
- Experience soliciting and securing planned gifts.
- Ability to raise donor sights, articulate aspirational goals and ideas, present philanthropic opportunities, and close gifts.
- Creative, professional, and entrepreneurial spirit.
- Ability to work with and command the respect of faculty, senior officers, Trustees, and high‑level donors.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated presentation abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills; proven ability to work across a complex organization.
- Ability to provide inspired leadership and coaching to staff members.
- Ability to work independently and as part of multiple teams; demonstrated volunteer management at the highest levels.
- Demonstrated analytical and strategic thinking capabilities.

- Advanced degree.
- Proven solicitation experience for gifts of $10 million or more (evidence through professional references and reputation).
- Deep understanding of philanthropic process and individual giving behaviors.
- Solid experience coaching and mentoring junior colleagues.
- Comprehensive campaign experience.
