Job Description & How to Apply Below

Community Housing Opportunities Corporation (CHOC) strengthens affordable housing communities by providing resident-driven programs and services that support housing stability, self-sufficiency, and quality of life for low-income youth, families, and seniors. CHOC’s Youth Services programs bring educational and enrichment opportunities directly into affordable housing communities, reducing barriers to participation and creating accessible spaces where youth can learn, grow, and connect. Programs include after-school and summer enrichment, academic support, literacy, social-emotional learning, life skills, and community-based activities.

The Youth Services VISTA will help CHOC strengthen and expand the infrastructure behind these programs. Working with the Community Impact team, the VISTA will develop replicable curriculum and program standards, evaluation and outcome-measurement tools, volunteer recruitment and engagement systems, and strategies for developing community resources and support. The goal is to create sustainable tools and systems that CHOC staff can continue using to strengthen youth programming across affordable housing communities.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in youth development, education, social work, nonprofit leadership, community development, or program design who wants hands‑on experience building programs and systems with lasting community impact. This is a hybrid position serving CHOC communities in Sacramento and Yolo Counties in Northern California. The VISTA must reside within reasonable commuting distance of the Sacramento/Yolo region and be available for in‑person service approximately 1‑2 days per week.

This is not a fully remote position.

Member Duties

The VISTA will build lasting capacity for CHOC’s Youth Services program by developing agency‑wide program standards, replicable curriculum and activity guides, assessment tools, outcome measures, reporting templates, and written procedures. The VISTA will pilot and refine these resources with staff, who will remain responsible for ongoing program delivery and evaluation. The VISTA will also develop volunteer recruitment strategies, outreach materials, role descriptions, tracking and orientation tools, and sustainable volunteer procedures.

Finally, the VISTA will strengthen community‑resource development through donor and resource databases, outreach and donation‑request tools, and a grant‑research process and calendar. CHOC staff will remain responsible for direct service delivery, volunteer supervision, fundraising solicitation, grant submission, and management of awarded funds.
