The American Heart Association has an opportunity for a Grant and Proposal Writing Intern in our Mission Advancement department. Mission Advancement is responsible for raising foundation and government grants, individual major gifts ($100,000 or more), and estate gifts from donors who wish to make an impact and leave a lasting legacy. The majority of our major gift requests are presented in writing, through a proposal or application process or at the donor’s invitation.
In this role, you will gain on-the-job experience learning how to identify new prospects, how to develop a fundraising proposal strategy, as well as best practices in writing and customizing compelling proposals to raise funds for the prioritized initiatives of the AHA.
The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands- on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

InternshipOverview:
Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week

Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

- Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.
Conduct external research on prospective foundation donors, using specific database tools and basic internet research, identifying priorities, application due dates, and application requirements.
Reach out to assigned foundations to inquire about opportunities, gain additional information about the requirements and deadlines for proposals, and identify next steps, documenting the information in the CRM (Customer Relationship Management database, Salesforce) and sharing it with the fundraising team.
Attend planning meetings with seasoned fundraisers to develop strategy and cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans for donors and prospects.
Use resources and templates to write applications and customize proposals, ensuring that each are well- written, compelling, consistent with the strategic direction and funding needs of the AHA, and that respond to donor goals.
Document donor plans and activity in Salesforce CRM (Customer Relationship Management) database, leveraging dashboards and reports, and provides regular…
