The Major Gifts Officer is a full‑time, hybrid role based in New Orleans, LA, with the flexibility to work from home for some responsibilities. This role is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations, to support the organization’s programs and long-term sustainability. Day‑to‑day tasks include managing a portfolio of major gift prospects, developing personalized cultivation and solicitation strategies, preparing proposals and giving plans, and conducting in-depth prospect research.
The Major Gifts Officer will collaborate with leadership and staff to align fundraising priorities, coordinate donor meetings and events, track activities in a donor database, and provide regular reports on progress toward revenue goals. The role also participates in community outreach, represents the organization at events, and helps strengthen relationships with partners who share a commitment to supporting families of hospitalized children.
- Experience in major gift fundraising, including Planned Giving and Philanthropy, with a track record of securing significant contributions.
- Background in Annual Giving and Prospect Research, with the ability to manage a donor pipeline and use data to inform strategy.
- Knowledge of relationship-based fundraising, with skills in building and sustaining long-term donor engagement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling proposals, presentations, and donor stewardship materials.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain accurate donor records in CRM or donor management systems.
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations or in a mission-driven environment; familiarity with family or health-related causes is a plus.
- Master’s degree in a relevent field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends for donor meetings and events, and to travel locally within South Louisiana as needed.
