Wendell 2 is an award-winning Surgical Short Stay unit with 24 beds, specializing in women’s health, ortho/spine, general surgery, and bariatrics, with a ratio of 1:5 or 1:6. These are all short stay populations with heavy discharge turnover. The unit operates primarily on 12-hour shifts with weekend rotations. The team includes Patient Care Technicians covering 8-12 patients, Unit Coordinators, Resource Nurses, and an Educator with over 20 years of experience.

The unit emphasizes comprehensive staff development through a robust orientation program where managers and educators meet biweekly to optimize learning, making it an ideal environment for both experienced nurses and new graduates seeking skill development. Wendell 2 fosters a collaborative atmosphere with a multidisciplinary team, blending the resources of a major medical center with community hospital warmth, while maintaining a focus on patient safety and quality care.

• Provide care for short-stay populations in a fast-paced setting with emphasis on safety and quality outcomes.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient care and discharge planning.
• Participate in orientation and ongoing staff development activities.

Education

• Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or MSN (preferred)

Certification/Licensure

• RN License (Required)
• BLS required within 90 days of hire

Experience

• None required
• 1 year of acute care (preferred)
• Previous healthcare experience (preferred)
