Job OverviewThis job administers anesthesia to patients during the performance of surgical, obstetrical and other pain producing clinical procedures under the supervision of a physician. The role works in a collaborative model with residents, fellows, attendings, and staff who care for patients.
EducationRequired – Master’s degree from a school of nurse anesthesia accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
Work ExperienceRequired – None.
Certifications- License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice.
- Certification through the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification from the American Heart Association.
- Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
- Proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).
- Document patient procedures and incidents.
- Assess patient before, during, and after administering anesthesia.
- Ensure patient safety and administer anesthesia following accepted practice techniques.
- Act as a liaison to surgeons, anesthesiologists, co-workers, patients, and families.
- Participate in department quality assurance initiatives and professional development activities.
- Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, respecting privacy, introductions, explaining services, requesting permissions, and tailoring communication style.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or >10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to stand for prolonged periods and may be exposed to blood, body fluids, and tissue. Occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications and waste applies.
