Overview
Position:
Nursing Leadership & Clinical Staff at the Colorado Mental Health Hospital, Fort Logan.
Location:
3520 W Oxford Avenue, Denver, CO 80236 – on‑site (part‑time). This posting may be used to fill multiple shift positions (days, nights, weekend, float).
- Assess, coordinate, provide, and evaluate nursing care for psychiatric and medical patients, documenting all pertinent data.
- Utilize nursing theory to develop nursing plans of care and therapeutic interventions, including individual counseling, psycho educational groups, and milieu management.
- Communicate the nursing plan of care to the interdisciplinary team.
- Ensure appropriate documentation and information exchange from shift to shift; conduct rounds to assess patients’ psychiatric and medical statuses.
- Notify medical staff of changes in patient condition and needed evaluations and orders.
- Report patient care concerns to supervisor and physicians as indicated.
- Direct, coordinate, and implement medical and psychiatric crisis intervention in emergencies, ensuring compliance with nursing standards and policies (e.g., de‑escalation, seclusion/restraint, CPR).
- Escort patients to activities and appointments on grounds and in the community, including driving as necessary.
- Assume responsibility for paperwork while ensuring confidentiality.
- Determine whether a patient returning from a general hospital can be safely managed by the nursing staff, considering competency, equipment, and staffing levels.
- Collaborate with the Nurse Manager and treatment team to recommend program scheduling changes that benefit patients.
- Assure a safe, therapeutic environment through proactive anticipation, intervention planning, and responsibility assignment.
- Serve as Charge Nurse during specific shifts, providing clinical and administrative supervision of nursing staff on duty and ensuring care meets or exceeds community and professional standards.
- Evaluate and administer medication, monitor effectiveness, side effects, and drug interactions; follow policies for medical order transcription and documentation.
- Delegate work assignments to licensed and unlicensed assistants, ensuring timely completion and providing clinical leadership and teaching.
- Assess and teach patients preventive health care, illness management, coping skills, social skills, living skills, and medication indications/side effects.
- Provide nursing input as part of the interdisciplinary team in treatment planning and unit programming.
- Serve as liaison between patient, family, physicians, and other health professionals, facilitating information exchange and clarifying rationales for plans and interventions.
- Maintain updated skills, knowledge, and competencies through continuing education, clinical supervision, literature review, and participation in discipline and team development.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Current, valid licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
- At least 21 years of age.
