OverviewThe Oncology Intermediate Care Unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital provides specialized care for cancer patients in a 36‑bed inpatient IMCU. Registered Nurses in this unit monitor patient physical conditions, administer chemotherapy, prescribe medication, and provide comprehensive symptom management, hospice, radiation, stem cell transplant/CAR‑T care, and radioactive iodine treatment. Nurses also facilitate round checks, assess admissions, and communicate with families to ensure holistic patient care.

This unit is dedicated to advanced cancer care with a nurse‑to‑patient ratio of 1:4. Responsibilities include direct patient monitoring, medication administration, chemotherapy delivery, and coordination of multidisciplinary treatments such as radiation, stem cell transplants, and symptom management.

New graduate nurses are invited to apply. Our 11‑week Transition to Practice (TTP) program offers orientation, knowledge support, and skill acquisition in intermediate care settings. Graduates also have access to a comprehensive 6‑month residency program to support transition to practice.
CompensationSign‑on bonuses ranging from $15,000 to $20,000 and relocation assistance are available for qualified candidates.
Primary Duties- Assess and admit patients to the oncology IMCU
- Conduct rounding checks and provide medication administration
- Communicate with patients and families about care plans
- Coordinate interdisciplinary treatment plans and manage overall patient care

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is a 525‑bed tertiary care facility, the only Level I trauma and burn unit in Hampton Roads, and a Magnet hospital recognized for nursing excellence.
