Position OverviewCell Staff is seeking a dedicated, autonomous, and compassionate Nurse Practitioner (NP) for a full-time, 20-week contract assignment at Piedmont Correctional Institution in Salisbury, NC. This position offers a highly predictable schedule with zero weekend or evening commitments, allowing for an excellent work-life balance, with the strong potential for contract renewal.
In this role, you will provide comprehensive primary and urgent care services to an underserved inmate population. Working in a correctional environment requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, empathetic healthcare within a secure environment.
Key Responsibilities- Primary Care & Triage:
Conduct physical examinations, diagnose acute and chronic illnesses, and formulate comprehensive treatment plans for adult male offenders. - Chronic Disease Management:
Monitor and manage long-term conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, HIV, and cardiovascular disease. - Urgent Care:
Respond to minor emergencies, evaluate acute injuries, and stabilize patients requiring transfer to outside medical facilities. - Medication Management:
Prescribe appropriate medications, manage formulary adherence, and monitor patient compliance and side effects. - Collaborative Care:
Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including correctional officers, mental health professionals, registered nurses, and outside specialists. - Documentation:
Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough electronic health records (EHR) in compliance with facility protocols and state regulations.
- Education:
Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. - Licensure:
Active, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state of North Carolina. - Certification:
National certification (AANP or ANCC) as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP). - Credentials:
Valid DEA registration and North Carolina prescribing privileges. - Experience:
Prior experience in correctional health, urgent care, or emergency medicine is highly preferred, but strong primary care backgrounds will be considered. - Background Screening:
Ability to successfully pass a rigorous background check and drug screening required by the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction.
