Position Overview
The role is a Registered Nurse (RN) within the Bristol McCandless Veterans Community Living Center (VCLC) in Florence, Colorado. It involves a 12‑hour shift schedule that may change based on program needs.
Responsibilities- Perform admission and daily assessments during clinical stay, identifying critical incidents, emergencies, acute illnesses and behavior changes.
- Identify and implement appropriate nursing interventions, treatment care plans and physician referrals.
- Document current, accurate and pertinent information regarding care and treatment provided to individual residents in the Electronic Health Record and as required by paper documentation policies.
- Indicate specific changes in status, medications and physician orders.
- Detect abnormalities in resident health status indicated by symptoms, vital signs and laboratory results and report information to the physician.
- Direct and implement nursing care to residents, ensuring compliance with accepted standards, departmental and facility policies, and VA and State of Colorado regulatory requirements.
- Direct subordinates to assure these standards are met.
- Review and audit physician orders, MARS, CNA flow sheets, bathing schedules and BM sheets to determine compliance with policies and standards of care as part of a department quality assurance activity.
- Perform prescribed, specialized treatments and ensure safe and accurate medication administration.
- Monitor the clinical, physical and environmental safety of all residents through assessments and regularly scheduled rounds.
- Identify and implement appropriate clinical, physical and environmental interventions, perform necessary documentation for regulatory compliance and notify family, physician, NHA and DON as appropriate.
- Serve as a resource to subordinate staff to assure timely and proper care of residents.
- Train subordinate staff and assure competencies are completed and submitted.
- Provide input to management on the direct care performance, documentation, attendance and interpersonal skills of subordinates for evaluation purposes.
- Evaluate daily workload and prioritize assignments with available staff, delegating duties to provide the most effective coverage and ensure quality and continuity of care.
- Provide active listening and communication, support and encouragement to residents and families regarding their concerns by phone and personal contact.
- Must possess a valid Registered Nurse License (RN) from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies or any state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact in good standing. Licensure cannot be obtained during the probationary/trial service period.
- Current, valid licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
- Two (2) years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
- Education may substitute for up to two (2) years of the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
- All employees must be Colorado residents at the time of application and maintain residency within the state throughout employment.
- Employment requires completion of a TB test, background checks (CBI name check, fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, reference checks, professional license verification, drug screen, PREA, Trails check, CAPS).
- Shift work may require working any shift, including holidays and weekends, depending on facility needs.
