Job Summary and Qualifications

Specialty Nurse Educator - Emergency Services. Our Clinical Center of Advancement is located in Richmond, VA, but this market‑based position supports the Capital Division for Clinical Education. Commute required; mileage reimbursement eligible.

The Clinical Professional Development Specialty Educator (CPDSE) is responsible for enhancing professional practice and providing quality patient care in the identified specialty across the division’s hospitals. The CPDSE should have deep subject‑matter expertise in specialty nursing and will develop evidence‑based educational programs that promote professional competency for nursing, inter‑professional, and non‑licensed clinical staff.

Responsibilities
  • Provide and assist with orientation/onboarding programs to promote employee retention.
  • Conduct orientation in a manner that facilitates a positive learning environment.
  • Identify learning needs of specialty staff through on‑site reviews or metrics.
  • Develop activities to achieve specific outcomes related to deficits or improvement opportunities in knowledge, skill, and practice.
  • Plan educational content delivery that encourages learner engagement.
  • Assess practice gaps and monitor compliance with laws, regulations, guidelines, or industry practices.
  • Collaborate with the clinical education team—including the Director of Clinical Programs, Market Director of Clinical Professional Development, and other CPD educators—to evaluate and adjust educational programs based on feedback.
  • Participate in lifelong learning initiatives and utilize the novice‑to‑expert continuum when developing staff.
  • Communicate key performance indicators for the clinical education service line within the division.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (required).
  • Master’s degree in nursing (preferred).
  • 2+ years of clinical education experience (required).
  • 3+ years of experience in acute care hospital settings (required).
  • 3+ years of experience in clinical education, CSC, academia, or leadership (preferred).
  • Current license to provide nursing education in the state of practice in accordance with law and regulation (required).
  • BLS certification (required).
  • Specialty certification recognized by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (required).
  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the time.
