REGISTERED NURSE - Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Internship (Brandon NICU and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital)

Qualified RN applicants who have graduated from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a Neonatal Specialty will be considered for an intern position with Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital Birthing Center and neonatal patients at Brandon NICU on 8W and the expansion unit (10W). This educational program provides a unique career opportunity for current registered nurses to extend their NNP education into a full role as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, preparing the intern for high quality, family‑centered care and multidisciplinary communication.

• Coordinate care of acutely ill neonates in intensive care and acute care unit settings
• Present pertinent data to the medical staff
• Collect and interpret reports from diagnostic lab tests, radiographic procedures, and clinical studies
• Confer with attending physicians and communicate with other care providers/consultants to coordinate clinical care
• Streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care
• Attend high‑risk deliveries and assist with neonatal resuscitation activities
• Once credentialed and privileged as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, perform procedures and order entry

NOTE:

The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner internship requires a two‑year commitment following completion of orientation. The selected candidate will practice as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner for 2 years in the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, Brandon Newborn Intensive Care Unit with a full‑time appointment fraction of 0.9–1.0 FTE.

• Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan
• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a Neonatal Specialty

Applicants must have or be able to meet all listed qualifications prior to the start date of employment.

• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Ability to function under the direct supervision of a licensed NNP while ensuring smooth collaboration among the medical care team
• Experience collaborating on clinical care ideas across multiple patient‑care services and serving as a patient advocate
• Proficiency with current medical, surgical, and pharmaceutical treatment modalities for acutely and chronically ill neonates

Nursing at Michigan offers a competitive salary with excellent benefits. Hourly range for Registered Nurses: $40.18–$62.31 per hour.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually and may change at any time.

New employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census based on the collective bargaining agreement.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U‑M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U‑M Professional Nurse Council union, which oversees wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
