OverviewSentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Freestanding Emergency Department. This part‑time Night shift 12‑hour position is located in Charlottesville, VA. Up to $10,000 sign‑on bonus is available for qualified candidates.
The Free‑Standing Emergency Room is a 13‑bed facility receiving ~60 patients per day with a physician and PA on staff, plus support from ED Techs. The department emphasizes teamwork and a patient‑first mindset. In emergencies, timely access to skilled care is critical, and Sentara offers 24‑hour emergency services nationwide. The leadership team is committed to building a cohesive, dedicated care team for the Charlottesville area.
RequiredCall and Orientation
Full‑Time nurses: 16 hours of call per 6 weeks. Part‑Time nurses: 12 hours of call per 6 weeks. Experienced critical care nurses will undergo a 10‑week orientation period on the unit.

The RN performs competent nursing care following the critical thinking nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. The RN also upholds professional standards in ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, quality, resource utilization, and environmental health. Clinical knowledge and skills meet standards required for specific clinical areas.
Education- Registered Nursing degree or diploma required.
- Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) or MSN preferred.
- Registered Nursing license required.
- ACLS required before completion of orientation.
- PALS required before completion of orientation.
- BLS required within 90 days of hire.
- 2 years of Emergency Room experience preferred.
- Critical care experience in hospital required.
- Manages complex cases in fast‑paced environments.
- Communicates with patients and providers.
