• Virginia or Compact Multi-State License in good standing
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire

• RN-Associate’s Degree
• RN-Bachelor’s Degree

• Minimum of 1 year inpatient nursing

The Emergency Department Transition to Practice program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in the Emergency Department. The RN is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care using the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation, in accordance with professional performance standards (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).

The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by clinical areas. The ED at Sentara Care Plex Hospital provides 43 beds including 11 fast-track beds; emergency physicians are board-certified; nurses undergo specialized training in emergency care with Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric certifications.
