Position: Nurse Practitioner - Physician Assistant - Lung Transplant - FT

Overview

Ochsner Health, founded in 1942, has evolved to remain a leader in patient care, education, and innovation. This role supports outpatient clinic patients in a collaborative model with residents, fellows, attendings, and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Supervised by the Medical Director or approved staff physician.
  • Planned, implemented, and evaluated medical and nursing care in association with staff nurses, discharge coordinators, and PCCs.
  • Provided primary and urgent medical management, emergency stabilization of all critically ill patients, and teaching of residents and medical students.
  • Conducted staff development and education, patient education, and discharge planning.
  • Executed the approved medical practices process and maintained an attitude of inquiry toward medical practices and patient care outcomes.
  • Adapted care to meet the needs of a diverse patient population, including privacy, communication, and service explanations.
  • Performed other related duties as required.
Education

Master's degree in nursing or Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant medicine or Health Sciences, or graduate of an approved Physician Assistant Training Program.

Work Experience
  • Required – None.
  • Preferred – 3 years of related working experience.
Certifications
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license in the state of practice.
  • Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner ANCC or AANPCP Certified.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing.
  • Physician Assistant license in the state of practice, NCCPA Certified, with BCLS/ACLS certification.
  • Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Medical Examiners.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Computer skills for data entry and retrieval.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Windows-style applications and various software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols.
  • Reliable transportation with ability to travel between facilities.
  • Flexibility for 24/7, weekend, holiday, and on‑call availability.
Job Duties
  • Utilized the approved medical practices process in delivering patient care.
  • Provided care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the ages of patients served.
  • Maintained an attitude of inquiry toward medical practices and outcomes, including potential research development.
  • Provided education experiences to patient families, staff, other health professionals, and the community.
  • Adapted behavior to specific patient populations, respecting privacy and communication needs.
  • Performed other related duties as required.
Physical and Environmental Demands

The role requires medium physical work including occasional and frequent lifting of 20–50 pounds, standing for prolonged periods, stooping, bending, reaching, and manual dexterity. Exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, hazardous medications, and waste is inherent to patient care.
