Overview

Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse for Cornell 3 – a 24‑bed Medical/Surgical unit focused on gastrointestinal care in Charlottesville, VA. This full‑time day shift position (12‑hour) offers a 1:5–1:6 patient‑to‑nurse ratio, and up to $15,000 sign‑on bonus for qualified candidates.

The unit cares for patients with gallbladder disease, appendicitis, bowel obstructions, colon resections, ostomy creation, sepsis, respiratory issues, and diabetes complications. It is a collaborative environment that blends the resources of a major medical center with a community hospital’s warmth.

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing competent nursing care, utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching and health promotion, evaluation). The RN also adheres to professional performance standards (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, research, quality, resource utilization, environmental health). Clinical knowledge and skills are required to meet the standards of care for the unit.

• Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
• Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) or Master’s of Science Nursing (MSN) – preferred

• Registered Nursing License – required
• BLS certification required within 90 days of hire

• 1 year of acute care RN experience – preferred
• Previous healthcare experience – preferred
• Medical/surgical experience – preferred
• Hospital‑based experience as an LPN or similar – preferred
