Boston Children’s Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Neuroscience Critical Care Nurse Practitioner to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team within our Neuroscience and critical care programs. In this role, you will provide advanced practice care to critically ill pediatric patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions, including traumatic brain injury, stroke, status epilepticus, neuromuscular disorders, post-operative neurosurgical cases, and other acute neurologic emergencies.
Working in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment, you will perform comprehensive neurologic assessments, formulate and implement management plans, and respond rapidly to changes in clinical status.
As a Neuroscience Critical Care Nurse Practitioner at Boston Children’s Hospital, you will collaborate closely with intensivists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, bedside nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other specialists in a fully multidisciplinary model. You will order and interpret diagnostic tests, including neuroimaging and advanced neuromonitoring data, manage ventilatory support and hemodynamics, and oversee therapies aimed at controlling intracranial pressure, optimizing cerebral perfusion, preventing secondary brain injury, and controlling seizures.
Within your scope and credentialing, you may perform invasive procedures such as vascular access and lumbar puncture, and you will play a central role in coordinating care across the continuum from emergency stabilization through critical care and step-down planning.
Aligned with Boston Children’s Hospital’s dedication to patient care, quality, safety, and innovation, this position emphasizes evidence-based practice, adherence to established protocols, and active participation in quality improvement initiatives that advance outcomes for children with critical neurologic illness. You will educate and support families, communicating complex clinical information with clarity and compassion while engaging them as partners in care. The role also offers opportunities to participate in research, protocol development, and educational activities that reflect our mission-driven commitment to advancing pediatric neuroscience and training the next generation of healthcare professionals.
This full-time role is based in our state-of-the-art facilities in Boston and involves predominantly on-site work in a highly specialized critical care environment, with potential for a hybrid mix of limited remote work for administrative, research, or educational responsibilities. The Neuroscience Critical Care Nurse Practitioner will work variable shifts, which may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays, to support 24/7 coverage of the unit.
In joining Boston Children’s Hospital, you will become part of a collaborative, innovative community dedicated to delivering the safest, highest-quality care and achieving the best possible outcomes for children with the most challenging neurological conditions.
