Position: REGISTERED NURSE (Mott Childrens Hospital- Brandon Neonatal ICU)

Responsibilities

The Brandon Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the University of Michigan is a 59-bed Level IV neonatal center serving our region, state and beyond. 80% of admissions are inborn and 20% are transported from our referral region. We offer 24/7 neonatal transport services with Newborn ICU RNs as members of the transport team. Our specialized nursing team provides quality care from the acute phase of illness through recovery in a family‑centered approach.

We provide individualized support and education to families during hospitalization and in preparation for discharge, empowering families to participate in decision making for their child.

Required Qualifications
  • Current unrestricted RN licensure to practice in the State of Michigan
  • Minimum 2‑years current pediatric inpatient RN experience,
    or Minimum 3‑years current high‑risk labor and delivery RN experience
  • Expectations of the Position:
  • Successful completion of a shadow experience within the clinical environment during the interview process
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in responding to a rapidly changing clinical environment
  • Effectively manages conflict, remains receptive to feedback, and incorporates feedback into practice
  • Exhibits a strong understanding of the complexities associated with caring for the neonatal patient population
  • Utilizes advanced critical thinking, complex problem‑solving skills, and clear, effective communication in clinical situations
  • Collaborates effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment while demonstrating strong delegation and prioritization skills
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Recent Level IV NICU nursing experience or experience caring for medically and surgically complex pediatric patients
  • Experience managing patients requiring advanced respiratory support, including high‑frequency ventilation
  • ECMO training and experience, including neonatal ECMO
  • Critical care transport experience, including neonatal transport
  • Experience with complex vascular access, including PICC insertion and management
  • Experience in unit‑based leadership roles, including charge nurse, unit‑based committees, shared governance, or quality improvement initiatives
  • National specialty certification relevant to critical care or neonatal nursing (e.g., RNC‑NIC, CCRN, C‑ELBW)
  • Proficiency with Epic, including Code Narrator documentation

Hourly range for Registered Nurses: $41.78‑$64.81 per hour

  • Evening Shift Differential: $3.00 per hour
