Department Information

Office of Adult, Aging and Disability Services, Colorado Veterans Community Living Center at Bruce McCandless, Florence. This facility offers skilled nursing and domiciliary care to veterans, surviving spouses, and Gold Star parents.

The Nursing Home Administrator will assume overall responsibility for the successful operation of the facility by directly supervising all departments and department managers. The Administrator ensures compliance with regulations from Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, Federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, US Department of Veterans Affairs, Colorado Department of Human Services, and other relevant agencies.

• Provide vision, direction, and leadership for the home.
• Implement a QAPI program and measure its effectiveness.
• Develop adequate census to meet fiscal objectives.
• Ensure financial operations achieve fiscal viability and solvency.
• Develop and maintain a culture congruent with CDHS principles and VCLC policies.
• Supervise all department managers and serve as final signature authority for personnel decisions for approximately 73 staff.
• Chair department head meetings and conduct strategic planning for training, recruitment, retention, census goals.
• Ensure resident care/services meet regulatory standards and facility policies.
• Collaborate with Director of Nursing to maintain appropriate staffing consistent with regulatory requirements.
• Maintain facility financial solvency through account reviews and profit/loss analysis.
• Meet with staff on financials, spend downs, contracts, and timekeeping issues.
• Attend and chair local advisory boards, VCLC board of commissioners meetings.
• Develop performance planning and evaluation forms for staff. Hold group and individual meetings.
• Ensure leadership team attendance at resident council/community meetings.
• Attend or delegate staff to health care associations and educational opportunities.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current unencumbered Nursing Home Administrator License in Colorado.
• Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers and required vaccinations.
• Ten (10) years of relevant experience in a long‑term care or skilled nursing facility operations OR a combination of related education and experience equal to ten years.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing departments/teams in long‑term care.
• Knowledge of financial monthly budgetary compliance.
• Census/marketing experience exceeding occupancy targets.
• Knowledge of CMS and VA nursing home regulations and survey process.

• CDHS employees: compliance with background checks, professional license verification, drug screen and PREA checks.
• Valid US driver's license.
• On‑call status: 24/7 response for facility operations.
• Former State employees terminated or resigned must disclose and explain prior termination.
