General Summary

Location:

Pontiac, MI (Hybrid)
Compensation: $30.22 - $38.14 per hour.
Under general supervision, the Public Health Nurse provides training, assistance, and education to schools and childcare centers in immunization compliance reporting utilizing the combined Michigan Care Improvement Registry and the School Immunization Record‑keeping System.

Provides consultation, education, and support to Oakland County Vaccines for Children providers and Oakland County Outbreak Vaccine partners on program requirements and standards, including monitoring, interpreting, and synthesizing temperature and inventory data, and promoting best practices.

Collaborates and consults with Oakland County vaccine providers on strategies to improve immunization rates for target age and risk groups. Conducts vaccine provider quality assurance visits throughout the county. Develops and delivers Immunization Nurse Education modules for Oakland County vaccine providers.

Exercises a considerable degree of independent judgment in planning for and implementing public health nursing services in assigned area collaborating with other professionals. Utilizes current Countywide and department‑specific software to complete assignments. This position requires travel to provider offices across Oakland County and to Lansing several times a year. Some remote work is possible upon completion of probation.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensed by the Michigan Board of Nursing to practice as a registered professional nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university (preferred).
  • Foreign‑educated nurses must provide documentation of degree equivalency from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.
  • Eligible for licensure by the State of Michigan and meet all other stated requirements.
  • Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical examination established for this classification.
  • Successfully complete the six‑month probationary period.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
  • Knowledge of modern principles, methods, materials, practices, and specialized terminology of public health professional nursing service.
  • Ability to apply the principles, practices, and techniques of professional nursing to the functioning of Health Department Clinics, and services programs offered to schools, nursing homes, day care centers, individual homes, or other settings.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Health Division professional and support staff, and the public.
  • Ability to cope with difficult and/or emergency situations requiring immediate decisions in accordance with Health Division policies and procedures.
  • Ability to compile pertinent information and prepare and present oral or written technical reports to supervisors, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment and initiative in analyzing problems and recommending solutions.
Special Requirements

Submit to immunizations as required by the Health Division and to tuberculin skin tests or chest X‑rays at County expense.
Maintain current registration with the State of Michigan Board of Nursing.

Essential Job Functions

Participates in programs of instruction and services within the County such as child health clinics, immunizations, tuberculosis and sexually transmitted infection control, Medicaid, and other services at Health Department Clinics and at various out‑reach sites.
