Job Summary
The School of Nursing (UMSN), Department of Health Behavior and Clinical Sciences, is recruiting a nursing professional with clinical experience as a practicing Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
- Primary Care (CPNP-PC) to teach one clinical section (2 credits, 16.66% effort) of N503 - Advanced Health Assessment for Advanced Practice Nurses.
N503 - Advanced Health Assessment for Advanced Practice Nurses:
This course focuses on the advanced, comprehensive assessment of individuals within a developmental life span perspective. The interactions of developmental, biopsychosocial, and socio-cultural contexts resulting in health effects for individuals provide the structure of the course. The course builds on the students' knowledge and skills of basic physical assessment and provides a foundation for the advanced practice nurse to evaluate the health of individuals across the life span.
Students are grounded in the theoretical perspectives, empirical documentation, and practice skills necessary for advanced communication (i.e., clinical interviewing, focused history taking), biopsychosocial and physical assessment, critical diagnostic reasoning, and clinical decision-making. Students acquire the requisite advances knowledge and skills within a case based, problem focused learning framework that integrates theoretical, empirical, and experienced-based practical knowledge.
The Lecturer appointed to this position is expected to attend all simulations and clinical conferences, perform clinical site visits, provide feedback to students, and provide remediation for students who need additional support. The Lecturer is responsible for grading all assignments and simulations and bears primary responsibility for computing final grades in a timely fashion.
This position includes classroom and clinical teaching that will take place in classroom, virtual, and clinic settings and may include other on-site work hours. Additional settings include the Clinical Learning Center at the School of Nursing.
Availability Requirements- Lab conferences via Zoom on Wednesdays from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Faculty will also need to be present on December 3, 4 and 5 for on-campus intensives
- Students will participate in a Telehealth Simulation via Zoom on Wednesday, October 14th with individual appointments with lab faculty done from home
- Additional activities include in-person and virtual clinical site visits, preparation of course and program content, and student support for remediation to be coordinated with the program lead
This appointment is for Fall term, 2026 only.

Required Qualifications- A Master of Nursing, DNP, or PhD degree is required.
- Preference will be given to applicants who have clinical teaching experience and clinical practice experience as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
- A nursing license in the State of Michigan is required for this position (current licensure or willingness to obtain licensure).
- A specialty certification as a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
- Primary Care (CPNP-PC) is required for this position. - Prior to start date must be in compliance with all health requirements, including standard precautions such as Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, orientations, licenses/certifications, policies and procedures both internal and external to the University for your assigned classroom(s) and/or clinical site(s).
