The Department of Corrections is accepting applications for Part‑Time and Weekend Registered Nurse (Nurse Clinician
2) positions. Vacancies are listed below.
A Nurse Clinician 2 is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to patients in state correctional facilities. These duties include patient assessment and treatment, assisting the physician in providing medical services, medication management, provision of emergency care, and maintenance of medical records.
In addition, the Nurse Clinician 2 is expected to participate in educational programs for staff and patients and to maintain their nursing skill level.
Salary InformationPay is set in schedule range 11‑02 with hourly rates that depend on years of licensure as a Registered Nurse:
- 0 Years – $43.72/hr
- 3 Years – $45.97/hr
- 5 Years – $47.12/hr
- 7 Years – $48.28/hr
- 9 Years – $49.45/hr
- 11+ Years – $50.61/hr
Candidates with no prior permanent employment with the State of Wisconsin in the past five years may be eligible for a $3,000 sign‑on bonus. The bonus will be paid in two installments: $1,500 on the first paycheck and $1,500 with the paycheck for the pay period in which the employee attains permanent status (usually one year). Signing an agreement that the employee will remain in the position for one year is required.
Leaving the position before that time may require reimbursement of the initial payment.
The Weekend Nurse classification receives an additional $10.00/hr for hours worked during qualifying weekend hours, added to the base rate above.
Employees at Green Bay Correctional Institution are eligible for a $5/hr add‑on for all hours worked.
Weekend Nurse positions have different leave provisions located in sections 3.04, 4.03, and 5.02 of Section K of the Compensation Plan.
Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A twelve‑month probationary period is required. This position is FLSA‑Exempt.

Part‑time employees receive some of the benefits above on a prorated basis. Candidates hired into positions that are less than 60% of a full‑time position may not be eligible for all benefits.
