Advanced Practice Provider

When you join us, you'll become a part of a nationally recognized health system dedicated to our mission of "helping people live the healthiest lives possible."

As an Advanced Practice Provider on our Safe and Healthy Families team, you will use your pediatric expertise to help protect children and guide appropriate, evidence-based care in complex medical child abuse cases.

About Safe and Healthy Families

Safe and Healthy Families is a multidisciplinary program that provides medical and mental health services to children with suspected abuse or neglect and to their families across the Intermountain West. Guided by Primary Children's Hospital's philosophy, "The Child First and Always," our team brings together child abuse pediatricians, advanced practice providers, child and adolescent psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and therapists to evaluate and manage the needs of children affected by abuse and trauma.

About this role:

This specialized, non-direct-care position focuses primarily on referrals involving suspected medical neglect and factitious disorder imposed on another, formerly known as Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy. You will conduct comprehensive medical-record reviews and provide clinical consultation to help treating providers determine whether past and proposed care is necessary, appropriate, and safe.

Referrals and consultation requests come from across the intermountain region. Cases may involve fabricated or induced symptoms, altered test results, unnecessary utilization, or patterns of care across multiple clinicians or facilities. Caseload varies, with review of up to approximately 30 cases each year.

Your Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed, longitudinal reviews of medical records from across the health system and external providers.
  • Assess whether care already provided—and care being considered—is medically necessary and appropriate.
  • Identify concerning patterns, inconsistencies, or possible fabrication, induction, or tampering.
  • Develop clear, objective clinical summaries and recommendations.
  • Plan and participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and collaborate closely with our team's three pediatricians specialized in child abuse medicine.
  • Provide consultation to providers and other partners involved in complex cases.
  • Prepare for and provide expert testimony in court proceedings when required.
  • Support education, quality improvement, and research activities as appropriate.

Schedule and Work Location

  • Part-time schedule, you'll average 20 hours per week.
  • Significant flexibility to design your work schedule.
  • Most work will be completed remotely.
  • Initial training will take place at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
  • Occasional travel to Utah may be required for court proceedings and other business needs.
  • Of note, in this role you will not provide direct patient care.

Remote Work Eligibility

We are committed to offering flexible work options where approved and identified in the job posting. At this time, we cannot consider candidates who reside or plan to reside in California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont, or Washington.

How We'll Support You

Your well-being and professional growth matter to us. Our comprehensive support includes a generous benefits package, paid time off, license reimbursement, quality incentives, malpractice insurance coverage, and an annual continuing medical education allowance.

What You'll Bring

  • Current Utah licensure as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, or the ability to obtain licensure before starting employment.
  • Current national board certification as a Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioner…
