COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE Our Mission is to perpetuate the wildlife resources of the state, provide a quality state parks system, and offer enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to be active stewards of Colorado's natural resources.
Area 7 (5707) exists to perform wildlife management, wildlife education, law enforcement, public service duties in Mesa and Garfield counties, and to manage the Northwest Region Service Center and State Wildlife Areas within the same geographic area to provide wildlife habitat and recreational opportunities.
This position primarily serves the NWRSC and Area 7 staff and buildings, including maintenance of interior and exterior buildings, Grand Junction West Lake SWA, Leatha Jean Stassen SWA, chronic wasting disease/mandatory check facility, lawn maintenance, snow removal, and administrative functions. The position is the lead for ensuring safe conditions for customers and staff through maintaining grounds, facilities, and landscaping. The position will work to develop habitat for wildlife at local SWA’s.
Responsibilities- Habitat Management – Enhances and improves wildlife habitat on SWAs using tools such as mechanical tree mastication, hand clearing of trees, prescribed burns, noxious weed treatment, tillage and spring/water development. Inspect signage and fences to meet minimum property standards. Develop multi-year habitat plans in coordination with AWM, DWMs and Bios. Develop relationships with stakeholders and landowners. Procure funding for habitat projects through grants and utilize grant funds for habitat enhancements on SWAs.
Participate in the State bid process to engage vendors. - Water Management – Fully utilizes water rights owned by CPW, reports and records all water use, and maintains related infrastructure.
- Equipment and Facilities Management – Procure, repair and maintain NWRSC structures, facilities and equipment (e.g., Hunter Education building, indoor shooting range, office buildings, storage yards, utility services). Maintain landscaping, lawns, shelters and snow removal at the NWRSC.
- Administrative Functions – Monitor expenses, track budget, make purchasing decisions, prepare reports, develop work plans, apply for and administer grant applications, coordinate with CSRs, and support front desk functions during busy periods. Recruit, hire and support temporary workers and volunteers and manage CWD and mandatory animal check programs at the NWRSC.

Minimum Qualifications
