Overview
GEI has an outstanding opportunity to help support our growing environmental practice in California. We are looking to add on-call botanists to our team in support of our seasonal and project-specific workload. - Conduct small to large-scale field surveys for rare plants and vegetation mapping in accordance with California Native Plant Society and California Department of Fish and Wildlife Protocols.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of rare plant regulations and survey protocols.

- Prepare field equipment, plan field logistics, and provide oversight of survey implementation and data management.
- Participating in meetings and phone calls with project teams/managers.
- Processing of data and preparation of survey reports documenting findings.
- BS or higher in botany, biology, ecology, or related field.
- At least three (3) seasons of field experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of California flora, taxonomy, and vegetation communities, including experience with the Jepson manual and dichotomous keys.
- Strong field identification skills.
- Strong understanding of and experience with conducting standard botanical survey methods, vegetation assessments, and habitat characterizations in accordance with CNPS and CDFW protocols, with the ability to ensure consistent application across projects.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including providing clear direction and effective communication in meetings.
- Experience using GPS mapping technology such as Field Maps and ArcGIS Online.
- Ability to work in inclement conditions such as uneven/steep terrain in remote locations and be on location for multiple days at a time (1 to 2 weeks), if needed.
- Ability to lift/carry/move supplies and field equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Experience with ferns, bryophytes, and/or fungi
- Market-Competitive Compensation
