** The NC Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) is the state government agency created to conserve and sustain the state’s fish and wildlife resources through research, scientific management, wise use and public input. The NCWRC is the regulatory agency responsible for the enforcement of North Carolina’s fishing, hunting, trapping, and boating laws. The agency has an operational budget of approximately $100 million and employs approximately 700 full-time staff and 100 seasonal temporary staff across the state, including wildlife and fisheries biologists and technicians, wildlife law enforcement officers, wildlife educators, communication specialists, and customer service, information technology and administrative professionals.
The NCWRC Mission is to conserve North Carolina’s wildlife resources and their habitats and provide programs and opportunities that allow hunters, anglers, boaters, and other outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy wildlife-associated recreation.
** Description of Work
** The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is accepting applications for an Engagement Program Specialist
- District 8 (Conservation Program Coordinator II) for our Wildlife Education Division.
The Wildlife Education Division is responsible for raising public awareness about the agency, its mission, and its programs. The Division aims to engage and influence individuals through education and various opportunities, encouraging them to actively participate in the conservation of the state’s wildlife resources. The Division develops and delivers education programs focused on hunting, fishing, and shooting sports, along with other conservation outreach initiatives.
With educators located throughout the state, a dedicated fishing education center, and several shooting ranges, Division staff actively engage the public by providing outdoor skills training and educational programs that promote the conservation of North Carolina's wildlife and habitats. Additionally, the Division implements program planning and evaluation to ensure ongoing participation in conservation and wildlife-related recreational activities aligned with the agency's mission and purpose.
The primary purpose of this Wildlife Engagement Specialist
- District 8 (Conservation Program Coordinator II) position is to facilitate and coordinate the education efforts in the defined Wildlife District. This position will develop and maintain working relationships with all Wildlife Education Division staff and district staff throughout the agency to accomplish the following:
• Schedule, coordinate, facilitate and deploy Hunter Education, Boater Education, Hunting and Fishing Skills Education, Trapper Education, National Archery in the Schools, Conservation and Species-specific programs, and other agency initiatives as assigned.
• Assist with the facilitation of Commission-sponsored hunting and fishing opportunities and events.
• Recruit and train volunteer instructors for Hunting, Fishing, and other agency initiatives.
• Assist in developing and implementing educational programs.
• Deploy tools to measure the effectiveness of educational programs.
• Assist in the supervision and in-service training of volunteer and seasonal employees.
This is a HOME-BASED position. The workstation for this position is in the employee’s home-based office using an agency-provided computer. The employee in this position is expected to provide home office space compliant with WRC and State policies. This position requires a home-base within a WRC District 8 county:
Avery, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Lincoln, Mitchell, McDowell, Rutherford, and Yancey.
