Position DetailsDepartment: Parks and Recreation
Hours of Work: Variable;
Monday through Sunday; 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Location: 8400 Starview Drive
Seasonal: Positions end approximately six (6) months after date of hire. Seasonal employees are initially placed at Step 3 and advance by successive steps within the pay grade.
Remote Work: Opportunities may be considered after probation, at management discretion and approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible.
Authorization: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage does not provide sponsorship.
ResponsibilitiesUnder supervision, the Recreation Specialist II leads entry level staff responsible for delivering parks and recreation activities and operating facilities in the Anchorage Bowl.
Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and supervising participants
- Organizing and directing activities
- Cleaning facilities and grounds
- Providing excellent customer service in person, via phone, and via email
- Scheduling and providing routine information concerning reservations, training, and activities
- Coordinating and maintaining database for reservations of facilities, training, and activities
Employees will be assigned to one of the following facilities:
Kincaid Outdoor Center, Lidia Selkregg Chalet and Golf Course, Centennial Campground. Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and at least one (1) year of experience in the program or activity under consideration. Prior experience using recreational equipment is required.
- American Red Cross First Aid Certification and American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or equivalent at time of hire.
- Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record at time of hire.
- Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400) at time of hire.
- Certifications must remain current for the duration of employment.
- Commitment to complete the required background check and fingerprinting procedure prior to beginning work.
