Role DescriptionThe Garden Designer role is a part-time remote position focused on creating thoughtful, cottage-inspired garden plans for residential clients. You will need to read a brief to develop garden concepts and produce detailed planting and layout plans. The Garden Designer will research appropriate plant varieties, consider wildlife-friendly and site-appropriate options, and ensure designs align with client goals such as native species use or deer resistance—sun/shade/wet sites etc.
The role also involves preparing visual presentations or sketches, collaborating with any on-site installation partners, and updating designs based on client feedback.

- Candidates should possess skills in Gardening and Plantings, including plant selection, seasonal interest planning, and basic horticultural knowledge.
- Candidates should possess skills in Garden Design and Landscape Design, including spatial planning, aesthetic composition, and functional outdoor space design.
- Candidates should possess skills in Landscaping, including understanding of hardscape-softscape balance, site conditions, and practical installation considerations.
- Experience designing cottage, native, wildlife-friendly, or deer-resistant gardens is highly beneficial.
- Strong visual communication skills, such as drawing, rendering, or using design software to present garden concepts.
- Ability to manage projects remotely, communicate clearly with clients, and meet deadlines in a part-time schedule.
- Familiarity with local climate and plant zones, and an interest in sustainable and ecological gardening practices. (we work in zones 4-9)
- Relevant education or training in horticulture, landscape design, or a related field is a plus, as is prior professional garden design experience.
