Role DescriptionThe Supervisor-Restoration Ecologist is a full-time, hybrid position based in Northville, MI, with flexibility for some work-from-home tasks. This role oversees field crews and contractors implementing ecological restoration and green infrastructure projects, including site preparation, planting, invasive species management, and monitoring. Daily responsibilities include planning and coordinating fieldwork, ensuring safety and quality standards, collecting and analyzing ecological data, and documenting project progress.
The Supervisor-Restoration Ecologist collaborates with project managers and designers, supports permitting and reporting, and communicates with clients and stakeholders. The role also involves mentoring team members, optimizing workflows, and helping refine best practices for restoration and green infrastructure implementation.
- Applied ecology and restoration expertise, including plant community ecology, habitat restoration, and invasive species management.
- Experience with green infrastructure and design-build projects, such as stormwater BMPs, rain gardens, bioswales, and native landscape installations.
- Field supervision and project management capabilities, including crew leadership, scheduling, budgeting awareness, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Technical skills in ecological monitoring, data collection, basic GIS or mapping tools, and preparation of concise reports and documentation.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and community partners.
- Ability to perform outdoor fieldwork in varying conditions, including lifting, walking on uneven terrain, and operating field equipment.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in ecology, environmental science, biology, natural resources, or a related field; relevant professional certifications are a plus.
- Experience in the Great Lakes or Midwest ecosystems and familiarity with local native species and restoration standards is beneficial.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to reach project sites in the region.
