DescriptionThe Communications Outreach Specialist is responsible for developing and sustaining partnerships that expand the reach and accessibility of research opportunities to individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and advocacy communities. This role implements outreach strategies, organizes community events, and promotes inclusive communication. Travel to outreach sites, events, and conferences will be required.
Key Responsibilities- Consult with management and staff to design, develop and maintain a website.
- Develop, write and edit various communications materials including correspondence, newsletters, brochures and articles.
- Develop and maintain effective methods for distributing communication materials and information.
- Maintain required record‑keeping and documentation.
- Train staff in the use of communications technology.
- Utilize social media to accomplish work objectives.
- Perform related responsibilities as required.
- Build and maintain relationships with advocacy organizations, clinics, and community partners.
- Plan and coordinate educational events, presentations, and outreach initiatives.
- Translate complex research materials into plain language formats for diverse audiences.
- Maintain outreach tracking systems and produce periodic progress reports.
- Incorporate participant feedback into outreach practices and study materials.
- Travel to local, regional, and national events to represent the program and promote study awareness.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
NOTE:
This role will allow working from home regularly but must be able to commute to the Emory University location as needed and on short notice. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
