Background

The purpose of the consultancy is to support the SWA Communications Team in writing key publications, as well as supplying professional English editing/proof-reading.

Scope Of Work

Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) is a global partnership of over 500 national governments, donors, civil society organizations, the private sector, and other development partners working together to increase political will and strengthen resource allocations for water supply and sanitation. Strengthening resource allocations will require improved mobilization and better targeting of resources by both donors and national governments. The goal of SWA is sanitation and water for all.

UNICEF hosts the Secretariat of SWA. To support the SWA team in its efforts to produce high-quality materials, the SWA Secretariat is looking for an English Writer and Editor, that would be responsible for writing publications, articles and editing/proof-reading documents written by other SWA staff.

Terms of Reference / Key Deliverables

The consultant will provide high‑quality written content and editing services as outlined below, ensuring all documents meet the highest standards of clarity, accuracy and advocacy impact.

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in international relations, Public Relations, English Language or Literature, Communications, Journalism or Creative Writing.
Work Experience

Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in communications, journalism, or creative writing.

Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, with proven publication‑quality outputs.
  • Demonstrated experience in report writing and editing for advocacy and/or international development organizations.
  • Knowledge of Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) and/or water and sanitation–related topics is an asset.
  • A proactive, self‑motivated professional with strong diplomatic skills, capable of working both independently and collaboratively in multicultural teams.
Requirements
  • Completed profile in UNICEF’s e‑Recruitment system and upload a copy of academic credentials.
  • Financial proposal that will include/reflect:
    • the costs per each deliverable and the total lump‑sum for the whole assignment (in US$) to undertake the terms of reference.
    • travel costs and daily subsistence allowance, if internationally recruited or travel is required as per TOR.
    • any other estimated costs: visa, health insurance, and living costs as applicable.
    • indicate your availability.
  • Any emergent / unforeseen duty travel and related expenses will be covered by UNICEF.
  • At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage.
  • Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed satisfactory deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.
