Job Description- Environmental field and lab equipment and instrumentation purchase, maintain, repair, and replace environmental and scientific equipment and instrumentation as needed. Track and record all expenditures related to equipment and instrumentation. Maintain accurate inventory for internal and student/faculty reference. Coordinate equipment and instrumentation loans among faculty and students. Train students in effective and safe use of all equipment and instrumentation. Update all apps, software, operating systems, and firmware as needed.
Produce and update guides to lab, herbarium, and equipment use. Develop and maintain Lab and Herbarium Home Page and Equipment Guide using the Lib Guides platform. Implement a regular equipment maintenance program, such as recharging batteries, replacing out‑of‑date reagents, and testing equipment function. - Herbarium. The Herbarium at AUNE is housed within the Environmental Studies Department on the Antioch New England campus in Keene, NH. The Herbarium contains over 3,000 plant specimens representing about 1,000 species, primarily from the New England region, and about 600 mushroom specimens. Environmental Studies faculty and students have been contributing specimens to the herbarium since 1976. Maintain and repair plant, fungi, and lichen specimen collections.
Assess collection status and maintain proper filing of specimens by family and species. Regularly update specimen names according to current taxonomic standards. - Additional lab management responsibilities:
Provide appropriate storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous chemicals. Ensure that the Lab and Herbarium work spaces are clean, safe, and compliant with state and federal safety regulations. Perform other duties and activities as assigned by the supervisor (the ES Administrative Director).
