Quality Specialist - Consumable

Summary

The Quality Specialist - Consumable is responsible for designing, implementing and working cross functionally to coordinate product performance testing within various conditions to evaluate quality and performance of edible cake décor. This role will ensure that consumable products meet quality and safety regulations. This position will collaborate with cross functional partners to develop and execute required in-process and final testing and inspection plans and maintain accurate documentation in the quality management system.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, review, and approve consumable product specifications and labels.
  • Maintain consumable product specification and label database.
  • Coordinate product testing to ensure performance testing can be completed to ensure timely delivery based on company program and customer timelines.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance, R&D, Product Management, IBP, Procurement, and Sales to ensure products meet internal quality benchmarks and consumer/customer expectations.
  • Document and analyze test data and provide feedback on performance under various conditions and areas of improvement. Prepare reports on test outcomes for internal stakeholders.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure product quality and consistency.
  • Serve as backup for quality receiving inspections, nonedible and consumable.
  • Communicate with internal departments, regulatory bodies and suppliers to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for food products.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in quality assurance or related field, or equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related role/field including quality control, product testing, stability, or quality assurance (with bachelor’s degree). A minimum of 7 years’ experience in a related role/field including quality control, product testing, stability, or quality assurance in lieu of a degree.
  • SQF and HACCP experience required. GFSI experience/knowledge strongly preferred.
  • Experience in food product performance testing is highly preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel).
Required Skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail for precise testing and evaluation.
  • Basic analytical and problem-solving skills to identify issues.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects and priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently but also be able to collaborate and work well within cross functional teams.
  • Must be able to clearly and professionally communicate with internal business partners.
Physical & Mental Demands

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear/listen. Frequent use of hands to finger, handle or touch objects. Occasionally required to stand and move about while standing. Frequent lifting and carrying over 10 pounds while moving about. Occasionally required to lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds. Work in excess of 40 hours per week may be required.

Travel up to 10%. Mental requirements include constant reading and interpretation of information and data, making decisions, organization, problem solving and time management. This role interfaces with customers via phone and in person and therefore must demonstrate clear and professional verbal and written communication. Incumbent must be able to listen to and meet customer expectations as well as identify and elevate issues rapidly.

Work is performed onsite, in an office environment (Anoka, MN). Remote work is limited and infrequent.
