Position: Food Safety Manager (Remote)
Location: New York

Job Summary

The Manager of Food Safety leads the development and execution of enterprise food safety programs across all Shack operations, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations while protecting brand integrity and guest trust.

Working Arrangement

This role is eligible for remote work. Team members living within a commutable distance of one of Shake Shack’s Support Centers will follow a hybrid schedule, expected to work onsite three days per week.

Job Responsibilities and Duties
  • Lead the in‑Shack food safety auditing program, maintaining alignment with the Food Code and other regulatory agencies, and continuously improving the program to meet company KRIs.
  • Drive cross‑functional alignment for the implementation and continuous improvement of digital food safety tools, ensuring operations leaders are trained and providing quarterly reporting and data analysis.
  • Analyze local regulatory food codes to ensure compliance with Shack food safety programs at the restaurant level, delegating permit processes or inspections to Regional Food Safety Specialists.
  • Review and intervene in Shack DOH reports, providing in‑person training and recovery for locations with multiple unacceptable inspections, and delegating measures for less critical inspections.
  • Own the development and execution of a regional food safety program, including training at all NSOs, monitoring KPIs, and intervening where locations fall short.
  • Manage the Shack HACCP program for all required locations and as a tool for cross‑functional departments during permitting and the NSO process.
  • Provide food safety subject‑matter expertise for questions outside the scope of Shack SOPs.
  • Support FSQA late‑night and weekend coverage for critical food safety events.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of local regulatory food codes and safety requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured procedures.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi‑task and prioritize workload with guidance.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment.
Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree – Preferred. Field:
Food Science, Microbiology, Public Health, or related.

Experience
  • 4‑6 years of food safety experience in chain restaurant or manufacturing setting preferred.
  • 1‑3 years of supervisory experience.
