Position Summary
Responsible for serving as liaison between Grote Industries and its customers and suppliers. The QE possesses practical knowledge of various quality tools including 6 Sigma, 8D, 5S, Kaizen, APQP, PPAP, quality system audits, GD&T, project management, warranty analysis, reliability projections and design for Six Sigma. The QE may be called upon to lead teams during problem resolution or warranty product improvement, interact with customers, provide timely and accurate responses to customer concerns, and communicate requirements for quality systems, products and processes to suppliers.
They ensure suppliers identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and receive buy‑in from engineering. The QE monitors quality systems, metrics and processes to support company goals such as PPM targets and warranty defect rates, and works with teams in establishing quality plans and problem‑solving.
- Use statistics and data analysis techniques to monitor and improve products and processes.
- Focus on continual improvement of assigned product lines, processes and customers.
- Actively work to meet company goals and objectives such as PPMs and warranty targets.
- Assist and lead engineering and manufacturing in implementing quality and manufacturing tools to ensure quality products, on‑time launches, and irreversible corrective action.
- Interface with customers to determine requirements and resolve issues.
- Serve as a member of an assigned product development group and support the NPI process, procedures and flow.
- Act as champion for assigned initiatives.
- Utilize and lead the use of quality tools to solve problems.
- Provide directions to quality inspectors on a day‑to‑day basis.
- Maintain safety procedures and practices.
- Develop warranty metrics and manage/reports quality KPIs like PPM, scrap and internal quality indicators.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in quality; 2–3 years of project management experience; OEM/Heavy Truck Tier 1 supplier experience is a plus.
- Six Sigma training;
Green Belt preferred; quality certifications are a plus. - Knowledge in analyzing warranty and AIAG core tools.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to prepare analytic reliability presentations.
- Proficiency with PC, Microsoft Office and data entry.
- Ability to work at a highly motivated level with a sense of urgency and dedication to completing tasks.
- Experience with conflict resolution, problem solving and multitasking.
Ability to ascend and descend stairs, lift up to 75 lbs occasionally, type for extended periods, and work predominantly in a sedentary environment. Ability to see and read PC screens and detect color coding is required. This position requires travel as necessary and may involve onsite, hybrid or remote work arrangements based on manager discretion.
