Remote HSE Officer - Mining Compliance

About the Role

Our client is looking for a dedicated HSE Officer to join their fully remote team, providing critical oversight for mining operations near Paarl. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards across various mining sites. You will develop and implement HSE policies, conduct audits, investigate incidents, and promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization, all from your remote work location.

This position offers the opportunity to significantly influence safety practices in the mining sector without the need for constant site presence.

• Develop, implement, and maintain Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management systems.
• Conduct regular site audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver HSE training programs to employees at all levels.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and industry best practices in the mining sector.
• Prepare HSE reports for management and regulatory bodies.

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience as an HSE professional, with significant exposure to the mining industry.
• Knowledge of South African mining regulations (e.g., MHSA, NEMA) and international standards (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
• Strong auditing, investigation, and reporting skills.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and training abilities.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple priorities in a remote setting.
