Salary$74,743.50 – $79,794.00 Annually
Location & HoursJuneau, Alaska. Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
Hybrid remote work may be available after the probationary period.

Typical ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of the Assessor, the Commercial Appraiser discovers and values commercial properties in the City and Borough of Juneau. Key duties include:
- Collecting and maintaining market data through surveys, sales information, industry data sources, field work, building inspections, and appraisal reviews.
- Building and maintaining valuation models and procedures using mass appraisal software to determine full market value of commercial properties.
- Supervising the Personal Property Appraiser position and acting for the City and Borough Assessor in their absence.
- Handling assessment appeals, educating property owners on valuation methodology, presenting to the Board of Equalization, developing annual reports, establishing short‑ and long‑term goals, and prioritizing assignments for appraisal operations.
- Assisting the Assessor and Deputy Assessor with staff training, model development, and support of residential appraisers.
- Working independently to develop surveys and studies, update property data and values, schedule and conduct property inspections, and research local and national commercial real‑estate trends.
- Managing difficult inquiries and complaints from citizens regarding property values, and communicating with other departments to fulfill information requests and research property information.
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Experience: Five years in real‑property appraisal, including one year at the Appraiser II level in the City and Borough of Juneau or equivalent elsewhere.
- Substitution: College study may substitute for experience, 2.5 semester (3.75 quarter) hours per month of experience, up to a maximum of 24 months.
- Other: Valid driver’s license at time of appointment and ongoing employment.
- Must obtain Level III designation through the Alaska Association of Assessing Officers within twelve months of appointment and for continued employment.
