Post Doctoral Fellow - HIV or Perinatal Epidemiology

Join Emory University as a postdoctoral fellow in HIV or Perinatal Epidemiology. The role focuses on how HIV affects cardiometabolic comorbidities across the life course and offers opportunities to work on funded projects in South Africa, Australia, and the U.S.

Description

The fellow will be based at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, starting in Winter/Spring 2026. This full‑time, one‑year fellowship may extend for a second year depending on funding and performance. Salary and benefits will align with NIH standards.

Job Responsibilities
  • Design and conduct research projects in the specified field under the supervision of Principal Investigator Dr. Angela Bengtson.
  • Develop and implement research protocols, perform data analyses, and prepare manuscripts for peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Present findings at scientific meetings and assist in grant proposal development.
  • Collaborate with investigators at Emory RSPH, the School of Medicine, and international partners in South Africa and Australia.
  • Provide methodological support and supervise research staff as needed.
  • Maintain high standards of scientific integrity and adhere to NIH guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS, etc.) in a relevant field.
  • Excellent scientific writing and strong oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.
  • Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biostatistics, or another quantitative discipline.
  • Experience in perinatal/pediatric epidemiology, women’s health, and/or HIV epidemiology.
  • Proficiency in data management and analysis using SAS, Stata, or R.
  • Expertise in longitudinal data analysis; experience with metabolomics or other ‘omics data is encouraged.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing manuscripts for publication.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to foster collaborative relationships.
Remote Work & Eligibility

The position permits regular work from home but requires commuting to Emory University on a flexible schedule as business needs dictate. Candidates must be residents of the state of Georgia. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice.
