The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

Project Overview

The Department of Environmental Sciences at Emory University is seeking an independent and highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our research team for an innovative project recently supported by NASA, titled “Forecasting Mosquito‑Borne Disease Risk in a Changing Climate:
Integrating GLOBE Citizen Science and NASA Earth System Modeling”. Its overall objective is to develop an innovative framework for integrating citizen science data from the GLOBE Program with NASA Earth observations to model and predict mosquito habitats and disease risks under various climate scenarios.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement data fusion approaches by systematically integrating NASA satellite observations and crowd sourcing observations from NASA GLOBE datasets.
  • Address challenges related to data heterogeneity, quality, and computational complexity by developing standardized protocols, employing data quality assurance techniques, and leveraging high‑performance computing resources.
  • Contribute to the spatial downscaling of NASA observations (e.g., atmospheric, surface, aquatic, and land cover variables) by evaluating both statistical and deep learning‑based methods.
  • Construct AI‑driven models for mosquito habitat mapping, integrating diverse climate change scenarios to enhance predictive accuracy and future forecasting.
Qualifications
  • Evidence of being awarded a Ph.D. in Geography, Environmental Sciences, or other related field is required before the employment date.
  • Rich knowledge of deep learning methods for spatial downscaling, data assimilation, and data fusion.
  • Familiarity with species habitat modeling.
  • Some knowledge of climate change scenarios and how to integrate them into habitat mapping models.
