Discover Your Career at Emory University
Emory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world‑class talent to innovate today and prepare leaders for the future. We welcome candidates who can contribute to the excellence of our academic community.
DescriptionPostdoctoral position, Neuro‑Immunology/Autoimmunity
One postdoctoral research fellow position is available immediately under the mentorship of Dr. Eliver Ghosn in the Department of Medicine, Division of Immunology, and Dr. Grace Gombolay in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neurology.
The candidate will lead projects to elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neuroinflammatory autoimmune diseases in children and adults, including antibody‑mediated autoimmune encephalitis (AE) and multiple sclerosis (MS). The candidate will join our multi‑disciplinary team of researchers, including immunologists, PhD students, physician‑scientists, and bioinformaticians. The postdoctoral fellow will work in an NIH‑funded laboratory and will have access to state‑of‑the‑art technologies in multi‑omics single‑cell sequencing and Hi‑D flow cytometry.
The project focuses on the role of B cells, plasma cells, and (auto) antibody responses in neuroinflammatory diseases, using patient samples (CSF and matching blood), ex vivo models, and humanized mice. The results from your projects will provide new insights into the (auto) immune mechanisms underlying neuroinflammatory disorders, thereby improving diagnosis, treatment, and the prediction of relapses in these diseases.
Please upload your CV, names of three references, and a brief statement on why you are interested in our work.
Preferred Qualifications- An MD/PhD or PhD in immunology or related fields, with basic experience in standard laboratory techniques for immunology and/or molecular biology/genetics.
- Preference for applicants who are finishing graduate school or have less than 2 years of postdoctoral experience, but all post‑graduate career stages will be considered.
You will join a vibrant team of researchers at various career stages, interests, and backgrounds, including undergrads and grad students (master’s and PhD), postdocs, physician‑scientists, and career scientists. The work schedule is flexible and will be performed in person in our open‑concept space on the second floor of a new, sunlight‑drenched research building (HSRB) at Emory’s main campus. The state‑of‑the‑art equipment and resources are within the HSRB building.
The candidate will also have access to resources from our affiliated institutions, including the Emory Vaccine Center, Emory Primate Center, Georgia Tech, Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, the Lowance Center for Human Immunology, Laney Graduate Programs, and others.
