Duties & Responsibilities
- Technicians will survey insect and plant communities across conservation plantings in North Dakota. This research is unique in its large geographic scope and seeks to provide information about the ecological value of conservation plantings.
- Technicians will be trained in the following techniques:
- Daytime and nighttime insect surveys
- Floral surveys and vegetation cover surveys
- Field identification of plants
- Insect processing (pinning, labeling)
- Data management/entry
- Typical challenges associated with working in grasslands and agricultural lands do apply. Expect to deal with wide ranging weather conditions, intense sun, mosquitoes, ticks, and long days working in the field and driving to and from survey sites. Some insect surveys will take place at night, requiring night‑shift work.
- (Essential) - Applicants must have a valid driver’s license.
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check.
- A positive attitude and ability to get along well with others is a must.
- Applicants should also be self‑reliant, motivated, and flexible. This is a large‑scale project that will require excellent communication skills and work ethic.
- Applicants must be willing to regularly work over 40 hours per week on a variable schedule according to weather and be willing to occasionally travel for several days in a row (housing is provided during travel).

Preferred Qualifications- Some experience with surveys and data collection helpful.
