What You Will Do
Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks an exceptional bioinformatician to join our dynamic team at the forefront of genomic research and computational biology. In this role, you will apply cutting‑edge artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches to solve complex biological problems with national security implications.
As a member of our bioscience team, you will work on multiple concurrent projects involving genome assembly, analysis, and interpretation. You will leverage state‑of‑the‑art AI tools and develop novel computational pipelines to advance our understanding of biological systems. Responsibilities:- Design, develop, and implement bioinformatics pipelines for genome assembly and analysis
- Apply artificial intelligence and machine learning methods to genomic datasets
- Utilize and integrate AI coding tools to enhance research productivity and analytical capabilities
- Manage multiple concurrent genomics projects with competing priorities and timelines
- Analyze large‑scale sequencing data and generate actionable biological insights
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of biologists, computational scientists, and engineers
- Document workflows, maintain code repositories, and contribute to scientific publications
- Stay current with emerging technologies in bioinformatics, genomics, and AI
Job Requirements:
- Demonstrated expertise and hands‑on experience in bioinformatics
- Practical experience with AI coding assistants and AI‑based tools for scientific applications
- Strong background in machine learning applications
- Proven experience with genome assembly methods and tools
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, multi‑project environment
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q‑level security clearance
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

- Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or related field

Work Location:
The work location for this position has the potential for remote work. Remote work is defined as working offsite that is greater than 2 hours of the Laboratory location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment:Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
