Job Summary

The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado at Boulder (CU Boulder) announces a position for a Post-Doctoral Associate in the Jimenez Research Group. This postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for conducting data analysis of previously acquired data using an aerosol mass spectrometer (AMS) from multiple field campaigns to quantify halogen (I,  , Cl) species in the particle phase.

Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Conduct data analysis to quantify atmospheric particulate halogens from AMS data acquired from previous field measurements (30%).
  • Perform laboratory calibrations as needed to interpret the field observations (20%).
  • Perform box modeling using airborne in‑situ observations (10%).
  • Finalize existing drafts of journal papers for submission to scientific journal peer review (40%).
What You Should Know
  • This is a 4‑month in‑person appointment at the University of Colorado Boulder campus.
  • Given project deliverables, candidates must be able to start work by May 4, 2026.
  • This position does not offer visa sponsorship. Candidates must be able to work full time in the U.S by the start date.
  • This position is in‑person at the University of Colorado Boulder. Remote work will not be allowed.

What We Require
  • A PhD degree in chemistry.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the measurements of halogens species with aerosol mass spectrometry.
What You Will Need
  • Knowledge of atmospheric chemistry.
  • Ability to conduct calibration for Aerodyne aerosol mass spectrometer (AMS) with various types of aerosol calibrant in the laboratory.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Igor Pro software, including programming.
  • Ability to conduct high‑resolution AMS data analysis using AMS software (i.e., Squirrel and Pika).
  • Ability to run a kinetic box model in the F0AM software constrained by field in‑situ observations.
  • Strong writing skills and data analysis skills of large datasets.
  • Strong work ethic and interest in conducting challenging research on halogen chemistry with complex multiple airborne datasets.
