Job Description And Position Requirements

The Urban Lab in the Department of Entomology at Penn State, University Park, seeks a highly motivated student research assistant to perform field and lab‑based research on spotted lantern fly behavior for the summer term, working 30‑40 hours per week. The candidate will assist with the collection of experimental data on the University Park campus and in and around vineyards in areas of high infestation in eastern Pennsylvania.

Duties include assisting with insect population monitoring (using traps and/or visual surveys), collecting insects, greenhouse plant care, rearing insect colonies, conducting behavioral assays, and performing general laboratory biology protocols.

The starting rate for this job is $18 per hour.

Employment will require successful completion of background checks in accordance with University policies. This position requires operating a motor vehicle as part of job duties. Therefore, a valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check are required, in addition to standard background checks.
