On-Call Archaeologist

We are the Environment & Planning Division in ICF. We are looking for temporary On-Call Archaeologists based in Sacramento, San Francisco Bay Area, or Northern California.

The On-Call/Temporary Archaeologist will assist senior archaeologists primarily in fieldwork, with tasks including survey, testing, evaluation, data recovery, and construction monitoring. Other duties may include laboratory analysis, background research, report preparation assistance, and additional tasks as assigned.

Requirements include excellent field skills, identifying pre‑contract and historic‑period artifacts, and taking detailed field notes. Travel of up to 10 days may be required, and work will be performed outdoors in all weather conditions.

On‑Call employees are scheduled for work hours as availability aligns, with work hours typically scheduled weeks in advance but may also occur last minute. Employees may accept or refuse hours assigned in a given week and may work concurrent projects outside of their ICF assignment, provided no conflict of interest arises.

• Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field
• Valid driver's license and successful Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check

• Field experience in northern and central California
• Effective communication and coordination with ICF senior staff and construction personnel
• Knowledge and familiarity with computers and smart devices
• Background in precontact or historic‑period archaeology
• Ability to conduct field visits across northern and central California
• Cross‑training in paleontological monitoring
• Mission‑era experience or training
• Osteology experience or training
• Active 40‑hour HAZWOPER training
