Collaboratory Summer Internships:
Building Capacity in Science Policy Careers

The NC Collaboratory is a research organization based at UNC-Chapel Hill that utilizes the expertise of the UNC System for the benefit of state and local government.

Position Overview:

We are seeking passionate and driven interns to join our Summer Internship program. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to support Collaboratory research projects. You will work closely with our staff, project leads and policy-makers to conduct background research, draft legislative reports and briefs, and develop communications materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interact with Collaboratory project leads, project stakeholders, and policy-makers.
  • Track relevant legislative bills and regulatory proposals related to Collaboratory projects.
  • Identify specific Collaboratory projects of interest to work on.
  • Develop written materials and deliverables for communication of Collaboratory projects.
Qualifications
  • Strong writing skills, policy analysis and previous research experience.
  • Demonstrated interest through classes or work experience in state policy issues and research.
  • Gain practical experience in the state legislative and regulatory process.
  • Work closely with experienced professionals and learn from their expertise.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of research impact.
  • Network and build connections within the policy sector.
  • Flexible schedule and hours, including some remote work and some hours in the Collaboratory’s office on UNC-Chapel Hill’s campus.
Duration and Compensation
  • The period of the internship is for 10 weeks over the summer and 40 hours per week.
