Data Scientist, Research Scientist
Position:
Scientist I (multiple titles: Scientist II or III available based on experience and qualifications.)
Department:
Radiology, University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine & Public Health.
In Dr. Pallavi Tiwari’s lab, the Scientist will develop and translate next‑generation radiomics and AI methods for personalized diagnostics in neurological and other diseases. The role will focus on building models that identify radiomic, radio‑genomic, and radio‑pathomic phenotypes, and on training students.
Additional Job DetailsWork will be performed in‑person at a designated campus location, with some remote work possible.
Key Responsibilities- Identify clinically translatable research problems and develop methodologies to solve them.
- Develop and validate radiomics pipelines and machine learning models for disease characterization.
- Collect, analyze, and document research data and experimental results.
- Assist in writing grant applications and research proposals.
- Conduct literature reviews and prepare reports.
- Serve as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in scholarly events and presentations.
- At least 3 years of post‑doctoral research experience in medical imaging, oncology, or machine learning/artificial intelligence.
- At least 2 first‑author papers or preprints in the last five years.
- Experience handling large imaging datasets and bioinformatic analysis.
- Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, and/or R.
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent critical thinking, technical skills, and a track record of research productivity.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and external partners.
- Previous grant writing experience.
- Manuscript writing and program management experience.
- Experience with IRB protocols and clinical trials.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis and data visualization tools (R, SAS, Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly).
Terminal degree (Ph.D.) in Engineering, Medical Physics, or a related technical field.
CompensationThe starting salary is $70,000 per year, negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
